Alpha Gamma Rho (AGR) is the world's largest social-professional fraternity. The Alpha Gamma Chapter was founded here at the University of Florida in 1924 when agriculture students decided that there needed to be a Fraternity that focused on Agriculture. While AGR is social like traditional fraternities, we are proud to highlight our professional side in which all of our members pursue careers in the agriculture industry and seek to promote its values and virtues. This allows for numerous networking opportunities within the agriculture industry and with alumni. Rush Week is the perfect opportunity to meet us and learn more.

AGR's 15th Annual BUCK OFF! is Tonight (10/7) Print E-mail
Wednesday, 07 October 2009 10:32
Come out to :08 on Wednesday for Alpha Gamma Rho's 15th Annual BUCK OFF!

Buck Off is a philanthropic event that benefits the Winn Dixie Hope Lodge. Winn Dixie and the American Cancer Society teamed up in 1984 to develop a way to help cancer patients that travel long distances to obtain the expert care needed to fight this disease. They decided the best way to do this was to build a “home away from home” to provide lodging for ambulatory outpatients that are undergoing cancer treatment. They named these “homes” Hope Lodges. In 1986, the Gainesville Hope Lodge opened its doors to their first guests and has been filling its rooms to capacity along with an ongoing waiting list. The lodge is staffed 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and is made up of mostly volunteers. Unfortunately, there are still numerous costs associated with running a lodge, which turns them to the local community for donations.

For the past fourteen years, Buck-Off has helped assist the Hope Lodge with their much-needed donations. Buck-Off is a mechanical bull riding competition held in Gainesville. Greek organizations and the College of Agricultural and Life Sciences student clubs register teams of participants. Each team competes to win based on a variety of judging components such as style and length of their ride.
